Europe, 2022, Gimmelwald Hike, Day 4

Slept for 5 hours, up for 2 and back to sleep for 3. I count that as 8 hours.

This was my alarm clock. (volume up.)

I decided to brave a moderately challenging hike after breakfast. Gimmelwald to Chilchbalm. It is as far as you can walk to the end of the valley. (Then you have to use mountain climbing equipment to go further.)

I wasn’t sure what was to be challenging about this trail. Then I realized I kept descending. It was easy going down but I could help feeling like coming back up was going to be exhausting. And my legs were a little done from yesterday’s trek.

I got to a little clearing where I could fly my drone. I shot a bit of footage.

I hiked on through mostly shaded areas. Found a few little waterfalls. It was remarkable how they’d carved into the stone of the mountain.

The trail was pretty empty. I saw maybe a dozen hikers and a few locals. Two guys drove by me in tractors filled with big wheels of Alp Cheese. Yum!

I made it to a cow farm and saw the that the trail in front of me continued to descend. I was going to have to ascend quite a bit already and wasn’t up for adding more so I turned around and began to hike back.

I took my time and stopped for lots of pictures. It really wasn’t too bad of an uphill climb.

I made it back to my room by around 1:45pm, dropped off some stuff then headed up for a late lunch in Mürren. The gondola was PACKED!

Fortunately it’s a quick ride to the top.

I headed to Hotel Edelweiss and had a very a Swiss Roste Edelweiss. (Roll your “R” when saying Roste.) It’s shredded potatoes with slices of ham, topped with Raclette cheese and a fried egg.

I had this the last time I was here and it was just as good this time. plus the view…

I wanted some dessert but I was stuffed and it was cold so I headed back to Gimmelwald and my room.

I didn’t bring a jacket with me to lunch so I warmed up in my room while editing my videos and photos from the day.

And that brings me to now, around 8:15pm. I really enjoyed all aspects of today. Great hike, nice chill time at lunch and in my room. This was a fine vacation day.
